Blame Art for this one. He sent me a sketch inspired by a story I wrote. The scan of the sketch, of his sketchbook spread open, seeing the edges of all the other pages of the book, made me think of my own notebooks - note, as opposed to sketch, seeing as I can't draw for the life of me - which is just filled with scrawled, messy handwriting.

You artists, though, your sketchbooks must be things of beauty. I've seen one of Ben's sketchbooks: while the actual, physical book is a thing of beauty, what he does inside it is cool: ideas and little drawings fill the pages. It made me wonder if this is what everyone does.

So, show us.
But I'm placing restrictions:
- either ONE page or DOUBLE SPREAD per post (so it doesn't get overwhelming)
- don't hog the thread
- make sure your images are sized so they fit (if that makes any sense: I'm not a technical boy)
- it's probably not a good idea to post anything that has substantial notes or storylines or dialogue: I don't want anyone ripping anyone else off.
- the minute the thread gets out of control, I'll lock it down

Ok. Go to it. Take us behind the curtain.

I have a little moleskin [3.5 x 5.5] that I draw and paint in. I don't normally do a lot of sketch book work. I just draw and use what I like... occasionally redoing things when I feel the need... but I've been doing a lot of this lately. I'll post more when others have posted stuff too, so as to not be a thread hog. Wink But you can check out my blog and see alot more of this stuff if you're interested.

I didn't like how my final image came out (on the blog) and I'm working on it still, but I like this as it's just ideas forming on the page... all the white text is notes for the final image. I doubt you can read most of what it says though.

Also, very cool thread idea Wooller! Can't wait to see what lurks in others books.

Despite the wanky image, I love moleskins.

Cheers. But the thanks really need to go to Art. And, yeah, I can't wait either!

You know: the image that those of us who use Moleskines are a pretencious and frightfully arty bunch. Wink

(Also: have you seen the Moleskinerie blog? I love it.)

Huh, I didn't know there was a stigma attatched to them. Hell, I just like that I can stick it in my pocket and draw where ever I am, being so small. The elastic band around it and the little pocket in the back are also very handy.

But, if I worried about what people thought of me, I'd probably not have a blog or post art here either. Or ever leave my house for fear of rejection. Laughing

And yes, that is a great blog!

Ok... maybe I'm impatient but screw it.

If you checked my blog, you probably already saw this, but I really like this one so...

Also, the scan isn't that great, so the pattern doesn't show up as strongly as I'd like.

C'mon people, show us your books!!! I can't be the only one here with a sketch book!

Really though, it's usually safe to blame everything on Art. He's trouble.

fist1 copy

Photoshop sketch colors over graphite sketch. I don't think I'll have time to properly clean this one up for a while Sad
