Hi Ben, you've probably been asked this question a thousand times so i'll keep it brief .... What kinds of inks do you usually use on a project?
Cheers,

Haven't been using inks until recently again...
I use brush and chisel pens a lot...but when I'm using 'real' ink...I currently have a bottle of Higgins black drawing ink. _________________

Eeeewwww. I hate Higgins ink. I prefer speedball ink. I also need to look about gettin' some of my "traditional art" up on me website. All of them are too big to scan, so I'll have to take pictures. Oh well, keeps me busy, so I'm more than glad to do it. Hehehe

Ben,
To someone who's a complete novice to compositing textures and colors in your style, is there some kinda web tutorial you can recommend. not necessarily "this is how I work", but "this is how someone worked who gets slightly similar results" I'm not interested in moving in on your style, just want to get a better 'handle' on it. I hate seeing things and not knowing the first thing about getting into it.
edit: wait, forget it. i forgot about the step by step thingy. |

1) you can get 22 pages, fully complete, in 2 weeks?...holy-hell.
2) Exactly how do you do that thing where you 'fade back' actual photos?
3) How did you get into the comic business? Did you just show them some work and they were like "oh my god, come work for me!"? _________________ www.tdchristman.boonika.org |

All I do is make layers in PS, and use the erase tool to varying degrees, on the layers which I also mess with the opacity of really. Does that help? I am wanting to put a bunch of little things I know into a book some day...the problem is...I actually don't know much at all! I'm a luddite and probably do things the long way in the end. Gues like Spiritform know so much more than me. _________________

Just titanium white acylic paint for me...sometimes with some flow medium...and now more recently this wonderful white ink pen I lucked upon from an Australian stationary store.
For paper just some stiff tinted card right now...dark enough to contrast the white paint, yet not too dark you lose the linework. _________________

1. Depends on the script really, and how insane I am at the time...and how decent they want the art...I think I'm coming to the end of my days of rapidly doing stuff. I want to go more quality over quantity soon. Still, I can do it, it is commercial art, you have to do what you can in the time given.
2. blur, change the layer opacity...distort the photo to fit the drawing...and lots of erasing basically.
3. Luck...being in the right place at the right time, and seizing the opportunity really. Work ethic can also go a long way with some people too. It keeps you where you are. _________________

Ben,
Ive recently started using Photoshop and i was wondering some of the best tools to use for touch-ups and stuff, because right now i get in moods where i like to do everything messy.
ALSO, what do use use for most of your color? some times it looks like oil pastels or something and other times i have no idea. sorry for the pseudo redundant questions that you seem to be getting.
FINALLY, can i borrow five bucks? _________________ if i had a dollar for everytime i killed a man i'd kill you for a dollar. |

Well...I never really 'clean stuff up' so I don't know if I can help you there...
Mostly my colouring is actually using the actual 'colour' tool in airbrush...and the burn tool too sometimes.
And no.
I don't have any more money. Me poor. ( my dear fiancee has taken it all! ) _________________
